The charcoal canister helps filter evaporating gas fumes from the fuel tank in order to reduce emissions into the atmosphere. It was added to meet Japanese government emission regulations of the time. The black plastic canister sits in the engine bay behind the passenger side headlight with lines running to the fuel tank and engine.
